WLW ‘16 courtesy of BusinessSloth. Vanilla on the nose, lots of heat upfront. After the burn fades a nice sweetness lingers. Not the best on picking up all the notes, but this is a great pour.

GTS ‘17. Strong tobacco and leather notes, very little heat. Sublime and dangerously drinkable.

I'm convinced that Mr B's never just "gets something in". Their "new rare bourbon just in!" IG posts seem a little too calculated.

    I'm glad I don't chase bourbon.

Good question, and I’ll have to take a look. I think we’ve ranged from 120 to 160ish on the first three barrels.

You have to keep in mind the people paying these prices are simply showing off and don't have a clue. I can't actually think of a worse way to spend that money in the whisk(e)y aisle than one bottle of cask strength bourbon.

Sazerac/Buffalo Trace is running a racket of epic proportions. It's "interesting" to say the least that Weller products aren't available in VA at all, and there's scarce WSR in DC occasionally (no Antique or W12), yet VA alone just got 1316 bottles of Lot B Van Winkle 12y. It's literally the same thing as W12, with a different label, that they charge more than twice as much for, and retailers go gaga because they can sell it for 8x the invoice price: $60->$499.

And at the end of the day Weller/Van Winkle products aren't all that different from MM, especially their CS and the MM46CS that are customized with special finishing staves. Very good product that gets no hype because it's not hyped with artificial rarity.

Saw this BevMo pick for $120. The buyer was raving about. Worth a buy?

I've liked a lot of the stuff I've had from Barrel Bourbon, but $120 is a lot. I think SB picks around here are a bit cheaper. Hard to justify 120 for a 10 year single barrel CS when you can get a FR SB cask strength for half.

For reference, I paid $95 for a similar store pick here in Boston.

I figured there price was high. I haven't tried anything from BB yet which also is why I've been hesitant. I'll try it at a bar first.

Stopped by the local shop to get a bottle in order to celebrate my 9th year at work today, woop!

11y 11m for $34.99? Sure! Smells deliciously sweet, lots of vanilla, and oaky. Taste is caramel, vanilla, wood, and butterscotch. Finish is fairly long and coats your mouth with a pretty warm 90 proof.

My did a 10yr pick for $30. Need to try it soon.

Also stopped into a store to grab a couple beers for a buddy today, and stopped by the bourbon section.

Didn’t even know 1.75s made it to town. I love Grapevine.

Ha! I was really tempted to grab that Kentucky Owl at Mile High, but didn’t want to drop $140. No way I could pass this up.

They also had a Blantons, but at $86 after Argo’s store pick was $65, it was an easy pass.

129 at Hazels, and they somehow got 12 bottles. It's good stuff.
