Odd Side Ales The Nightman Leaveth (Imperial Rye Milk Stout with Vanilla Beans Aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels)

Chocolate. Vanilla. Boozy. Smooth.

Buddy picked me up a mixed 4 pack of the recent Odd Side releases, and this is the first one I'm cracking open from that group. A really reserved vanilla character with the base chocolate / roasted grain and lactose sweetness, barrel character is also reserved with a very smooth / creamy finish. I don't go in expecting subtlety in this kind of beer anymore, but was pleasantly surprised this wasn't over the top barrel or vanilla. Nicely integrated and just a bit of a sweet finish.

Cheers!

OddSide Ales Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Mayan Mocha (Stout with coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg and habaneros aged in Bourbon Barrels).

Weird. Chai. Warming. Green.

Well this was certainly a miss for me. I've had this beer before, but not this fresh. Just a weird blend of spicing that is WAY too strong for my preference, and then you add the warming heat of habaneros and bourbon barrel aging. It kind of reminds me of this episode of South Park, but substitute Beer for Family Guy.
