Each Friday (typically) we'll introduce a new year from 1929 through 2017. Each member selects a movie released in thatyear with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply a movie that grabs you and that you really love. However, once a movie is selected by a member, you must choose a different movie. This week--the movies of 2004 Honorable mentions begin on Tuesday Here are the movies released in 2004 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_in_film
Sideways One of my favorites of this century. It's a toss-up between this and Nebraska for my favorite Payne movie. Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church have a great rapport.
Loaded, loaded year. Fuck. Such a raw, great movie. Such a great screenplay, masterful direction. I don't hate Jim Carrey in it. What more can I say. Looking forward to honorable mentions, but I hope most of my other favorites are given first pick status.
Was just talking about this film the other day in the What Movies Have You Seen Lately thread, so I'll let that re-review speak for itself. Re-watched Collateral last evening, and I still really enjoy that film. Great music that sets the tone for a lot of the film, good cinematography (although that technology they used didn't hold up super great), great performances from Jaime Foxx and Tom Cruise and I love how Mann basically made LA a character in the film. Just a really fun / entertaining film that I hadn't thought about in a few years.
Anchorman. Still as quotable and funny today as it was 14 years ago (unlike a lot of comedies from that era). I just was in the middle of college when this came out and must’ve watched this movie 30 times on DVD with my roommates.
I always give it to #2 just because of that badass Superman monologue David Carradine gives in Act 3:
Sideways is my favorite movie this year and in my top five for movies I have seen most in my life. National Treasure might be pushing that top five. I unapologetically love this move. Such a perfectly cheap Indiana Jones. I also HATE Eternal Sunshine and Napoleon Dynamite. Fuck both of them.
