Each Friday (typically) we'll introduce a new year from 1929 through 2017. Each member selects a movie released in thatyear with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply a movie that grabs you and that you really love. However, once a movie is selected by a member, you must choose a different movie. This week--the movies of 2005 Honorable mentions begin on Tuesday Here are the movies released in 2005 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_in_film
Not the best movie I saw in 2005, but the most memorable. Vegas. In July. My bachelor party. After a long night or two, we needed to just relax in some AC - let’s go see a movie! One great element of this movie, at least on the big screen, was the size/sound/sheer inescapable and hopeless nature of the situation. It was one of the first movies where I was lIke “holy crap, we would have no chance.” It ooooged everyone out, really threw off the festive mood for a bit, but thankfully, you know, Vegas (drinks and gambling) brought us back around. The furrowed brows and stinkface of the 7 or 8 of us walking out of the theater and into the casino is a vivid memory.
No movie has been screwed out of best picture more. It’s truly a fantastic movie that I think is one of the best of the two decades.
I feel people are being way too critical unlike the music thread years. Cuz there’s all kinds of bullshit posted in there. There are plenty of entertaining movies from this year. My pick is one of my favorite Biopics of all time. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are absolutely outstanding. Walk the Line
Well two of the worst remakes ever occurred this year. Not arsed but if Charlie, or Marvin shows up I might finally get that ban I think I have a pick, let me look deeper I guess.
Engrossing documentary about Timothy Treadwell, essentially an everyday guy who appointed himself protector of a group of grizzly bears on an Alaska preserve - bears that were not, in reality, facing any danger. Related - anyone who posts Crash gets a swift kick right in the jimmy.
Capote Because Philip Seymour Hoffman Walk the Line was probably the best movie in this year of duds.
All right I found one. I liked the way this was shot in black and white with splashes of color. This movie also has a lot of my favorite actors/actresses in it as well. Carla Gugino.
In a year with a great Malick, a great Lee, a great Cronenberg, the best Meirelles, the good Clooney, the best Jackson(?), an interesting Spielberg and a spellbinding Wright this is a hateful statement.
Fuck. Missed that one completely. The others you can have. Will you be participating in these threads or just judging my tastes?
