Each Friday (typically) we'll introduce a new year from 1929 through 2017. Each member selects a movie released in thatyear with a few lines (or more) on why you picked it/enjoy it. Your selection does not have to be the most important release or the most admired release of that year (though it certainly can be), simply a movie that grabs you and that you really love.

However, once a movie is selected by a member, you must choose a different movie.

    This week--the movies of 2011

    Honorable mentions begin on Tuesday

Here are the movies released in 2011

Asghar Farhadi's masterful portrayal of family turmoil is one of the best 5 movies of the century. I love Midnight In Paris, but this not winning best screenplay is baffling. The story unfolds in ways that will blow your mind. The leads have the perfect rapport to alternate between quiet tension between them to all out verbal warfare.

By my count, 2011 has five top tier movies.

Drive probably would have been my pick. A few years ago I wouldn’t have hesitated to pick Tree of Life but it’s lost some of it magic since.

This movie, though, is fantastic. Never expected such an emotional performance from any of the characters. And probably the best rebooted franchise of all time in my opinion.

Saw this movie a couple of years ago and I was amazed. Jeff Nichols and Michael Shannon's best work.

There are a bunch of movies that I like from this year. Some great comedies, a couple super hero movies and so on. Nothing that is an absolute stand out for me. I’m going with an all around solid movie and hilarious comedy. IMO best female comedy of all time. My wife and I quote this all the time.

Formally of the opinion that we take Pedro for granted.
    This movie rules.

For some reaon we went to see this while on vacation, as I recall the Shakespeare play in Ashland was sold out do we did this instead.

The annoying over laughers did not stop this being a great choice.

    Great movie

Lol. Overlaughers. It’s been a while but that’s tough to not focus on. “Motherfucker, it’s funny but not that funny ever time!”

There were a number of pretty good movies in 2011, but Warrior is my favorite. Think modern day Rocky with a solid performance from Tom Hardy and a great performance Nick Nolte.

If you haven't seen it... I consider it a much watch. Based on the true story of a man who was the Body Double of Prince Uday Hussein (Saddam's sadistic/spoiled son). Dominic Cooper proved to me he could act in this movie.

    Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

My favorite spy movie of the 21st century and possibly of all time. I vastly prefer this type of espionage story to the oft told super soldiers of James Bond or Jason Bourne.

An A+ ensemble cast led by Gary Oldman in one of the years he got absolutely screwed out of Best Actor. Firth, Hurt, Cumberbatch, Hardy, Strong, and Hinds make up what is probably the greatest collection of UK actors ever on a single feature.

Tomas Alfredson's stark imagery and cold pallette make every moment feel desperate.

I had a hard time not picking this first.

Another comedy. I didn’t realize this was a Farelly Brothers flick until I saw it well after it had been out of theaters. Great comedies are so few and far between imo so I rarely see them in theaters anymore. This movie is so fucking funny it totally caught me off guard. Jason Sudekis is gold and the Blue comedy risks are hilarious.

Good pick. I thought this movie started slow, but when Tom Hardy's character showed up the movie really started to shine for me.

I don’t love this movie start to finish, but it’s a solid backup with some great moments/scenes.
