So I've been tinkering with blending different shelf bourbons (mostly barrel proof) to see if I could create something greater than the sum of its parts and I have a couple recipes that I think are winners, including a Rye blend. Today I contacted a local distillery who is willing to give me a couple used 5 gallon barrels. The plan is to buy the components in bulk and blend them directly into those barrels where I will let them rest for a few months, tasting periodically to check on the progress. I'm excited but nervous because of the financial investment. Once I get started, I will post pictures here to chronicle the process.
