I basically woke up today and decided I'd like to try to find some of these old bastards. After having the Green Rooms Secret Spot (Imperial Stout aged in 21+ year old Rum barrels), which tasted like whole fucking pint of pure rum still, I've been curious about these. I don't actually know shit about rum or the availability of any this old. Please school me.

So no idea? I'd probably like to not spend more than $100. Would all of these be second hand bottles (not available from a retailer)?

Not necessarily. Rum can be kept aging in barrels for decades. I know of some 40 year old rum. The age noted on the bottle indicates the amount of time kept in the barrel. Therefore, a 21 year old rum would be barrel aged for 21 years (I'm not accounting for blending).

    Here's an example: http://www.finewineandgoodspirits.c...dlistCatId=Spirits&parent_category_rn=Spirits

    Check out Zacapa XO.

Blended by Solera method and contains vintages upwards of 25yrs.

Perhaps the best rum I've ever had.

I am aware of the age indications, but no knowledge about how these are sold

Zafra! It's 21yrs old and is matured in used bourbon casks. Also it's a steal at $39.99 + tax at my local store. I always keep a bottle on hand.

this X1,000. i have both converted non rum drinkers to drinking rum with this and also convinced a few avid rum drinkers that this is the best rum ever. i've noticed the prices rising aver the past few years to about 120$ here, but you may be able to find it around $100. the 23 is also a viable option with similar flavor characteristics- it just isn't as refined. should be able to find that for around 80$ a liter.

I saw this at Spec's yesterday and almost picked it up, but wasn't sure on the name.... I believe it was $38 and change. Have to get it next time.

I know its not 20 years old, but Angostura 1824 is damn great in my opinion. I picked it up for $65 in St. Thomas last time I was there. I really want some more

Scooped Kirk and Sweeney 23 and El Dorado Demerara Guyana 15 for $40 each last weekend. Don't know shit about either besides not solera'd and <$40. I do prefer sweeter Guyanese rum over other regions.

Still ISO Zaya 24 and Appleton 40 (or anything over the age of consent from them).
