We have a climbing thread and at least one other has devlolved to a gear discussion. I know you're out there.

Favorite cans/flasks to carry. Must have gear pieces. Places we must go.

I'm going to be lame and not load any pictures, but when I was living in Seattle my wife and I got into hiking. Seattle is a great base for hikers, with three really nice National Parks within about 3.5-ish hours. We also spent a week camping at Glacier National Park in Montana which was beautiful. Let's see, memorable trails included:

Olympic National Park - Hoh Rain Forest, Rialto Beach, and Hurricane Ridge (rain forest/beach/mountains in one weekend, pretty sweet)
Mt. Rainier National Park - great place to take visitors. Pinnacle Saddle Trail, Dege Peak and the Panorama Point trail were standouts, but every time I went there I liked the hiking.
North Cascades - Technically I don't think I was ever inside the "National Park" boundaries. The North Cascades is the result of a weird compromise; part National Park and part National Recreation Center, it's beautiful where ever you end up. Staying at the Ross Lake Resort was a memorable weekend, and doing bits of the East Bank Trail.
Glacier National Park - All of it, but the Highline Trail (I think that's the name?) was stunning. Saw many bears, thankfully all at a safe distance. Saw a wolf, too, which apparently is not an easy thing to do, so that was cool. Would love to go back.

Honorable Mention: Mt. St. Helen's is a really cool place to hike if you are old enough to remember when that happened. Kind of a pain in the neck to get there from Seattle, though, probably easier from Portland.

Before I got married and had kids, I rented out a little 2 bedroom house that was walking distance from Castlewood State park. I would do a 3-5 mile hike every morning before work.
