Just made my best Last Word / Final Ward riff yet:

    .75 oz Weller Special Reserve

    .75 oz Luxardo
    .75 oz lemon juice
    small dash of Angostorra Bitters

Shake hard + strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Chartreuse makes everything taste good. Wish it weren't so fucking expensive.

    .75 oz Reposado tequila
    .75 oz yellow Chartreuse
    .75 oz Luxardo
    .75 oz lemon juice

Last Word riffs can do no wrong. Also, apparently the Dernier Mot name is taken so I'll call my prior drink the French Word.

    2 oz gin
    1 oz Strong Tonic
    1 oz Framboise
    Ice
    Top with tonic water

This particular gin has some very fruity qualities I wanted to play into by adding fruit flavors to a classic G&T. Using up the last of my Framboise before I move on to a classic twist of lime and Lingonberry concentrate.

Used up the rest of the framboise dosing the Zima. Maybe an ounce to an ounce and a half.

I made five different types of mojitos today, using Bacardi, mint, and limes from our yard. In order of popularity:

    - Strawberry w/simple syrup
    - Watermelon w/simple syrup
    - Blackberry w/ss
    - Classic w/elderflower syrup
    - Orange w/orange ss
    - Pineapple w/ss
    - Mango w/ss

Picking the top two for a 4th of July party. I took three handfuls of fruit, juice of half a lime, three sprigs mint, three shots rum. Muddled and served with ice.

    That Lemon Hart!!

Looks like a great menu. I have been meaning to get a batch of Orgeat going. Might be my Saturday morning activity.

    Some great looking drinks

Sipping on Sazeracs tonight. Ran out of Absenthe, so I had to rinse my glass with Chartruese. Different but I still prefer classic Absenthe or Herbsainte.

    1.5oz rye
Drop of Chartruese to coat the glass
    Sugar cube
    3 dashes Pechaud Bitters
    Lemon peel around the rim

I wanted to spread the word around to some of the off topic threads that I participate in that I am doing a donation LIF. This is for raising funds for my wife and I as we are going through a 2nd round of IVF. More details are on the LIF page.

I also wanted to do a special give away for those in the off topic threads that I am active in. This will be a box of things related to these off topic threads. If you have already donated and participate (at least 3 post) in any of the threads, you are already entered. For those who would like to participate, the rules are the same as the general raffle, $20 = 1 entry, deadline is July 12th.

    The box will include:
    • Local Cocktail Shrub (Mixed Drink Recipe Thread)
    • Dog treats (Official Dog Pix Thread)
    • Local Coffee and Mug (ITT: Coffee)
    • Movie, most likely something from Tarantino (What Movies Have You Seen Recently)
    • Board/Card Game (the board game thread)
    • Pizza Port Cans, no way I couldn't include some

Along with this box, there are 13 other boxes being raffled off.

Anybody have a good bloody mary recipe? Like mine spicy, usually just buy a mix and tailor from there, the from scratch ones I have tried have been lacking.

I Dont really do recipes, try Chipotle Orange as the main flavors though.

Typically speaking put the juice from whatever pickles you use in the mix and dont skimp on the citrus.

I've always found that the simpler the better.
    • Tomato Juice
    • Lemon Juice
    • Worcestershire
    • Hot Sauce of choice
    • ...and a pickle!

Any technique suggestions when making a Sazerac? I attempted to make my first one a couple weeks ago and didn't love it (compared to great ones I've had at whiskey bars).

I picked up some Lucid Absinthe, Rittenhouse Rye, Pechaud Bitters, Lemon, and sugar. I think the problem is that I used too much absinthe when "rinsing" the glass, because the whole drink just tasted terribly woody and herbal.

Walk me through a successful preparation, please!

Could be the absinthe itself. Do you like Lucid? I have had good and bad absinthes (some are over the top wormwoody, though much more to my palate since developing a taste for Malört). I typically use Pernod for something delicate like a Sazerac. And it is just enough to coat the glass.

I haven't really drank absinthe, so I can't say that I particularly like Lucid more/less than others. What's your technique for coating the glass? Are you using a drop? A splash? Coating the entire inside surface of the glass all the way up to the rim?

A bar I go to actually uses an atomizer (or just a spray bottle) to mist the absinthe inside. It works well.
