The other day my neighbor gave me a Modelo Negra. It was actually my first time trying it... I think it might be my new favorite beer. Admittedly, I really haven't tried that many beers. Out of all the beers that I haven't tried... which one would I love the most? Let's call this beer "Samantha". She exists, I'd really love her, the challenge is finding her. It would be really awesome if you all helped me find Samantha. As a group you have tried an incredible variety of beers. Pooling this considerable beer knowledge can be accomplished by ranking beers. The easiest way to rank beers is to vote for your favorite ones. The top ranked beers would certainly be the most popular, but there's no guarantee that they would be the most lovable. A vote really can't convey how much you love a beer. Love can only be expressed through personal sacrifice. Making a donation to this forum is certainly a personal sacrifice. So what if beers were ranked by donations? The more money that you donated to this forum, the more influence that you'd have on the rankings. I'll be honest. Of course I want to find Samantha, but the main reason that I'm here is because I'm very curious to learn how differently beers would be ranked by voting and donating. As far as I know, beers have never been ranked by donations. What if donating is actually better than voting at ranking beers? My suggestion is that members of this forum be given the opportunity to use voting and/or donating to rank beers. This way we can all compare the two rankings and decide for ourselves which one is better. Basically, it would be a contest between voting and donating to find Samantha. Not just my Samantha, but all our Samanthas. This is how we will judge the contest. In terms of logistics... on Reddit a subreddit could be created for people to submit and vote for their favorite beers. A public Google sheet could be used to keep track of the donations and which beers they are for. Updating this sheet would only be time consuming if many donations were being regularly made. So what do you think? Are you interested in trying something different?
