Are not all baltic porters lagered? I always assumed they were.

Traditionally it would be, but lots of homebrewers / breweries make a 7.5 - 9% cold fermented (lager or ale yeast) not super roasty / hop forward dark beer that they call a Baltic Porter.

In practice, the only ones I find that match what I'm expecting are the classic European versions (Okocim Porter, Sinebrychoff Porter, Zywiec Porter).

Personally, I'd rather make a cold fermented Imperial American Porter with a hybrid style yeast to accentuate the somewhat estery yeast profile I get from those beers I mentioned above, but still have a bit more body / depth than the European versions. Just a bit more hopping / roasted grain than traditional.

As I said, this weekend (AKA ****ing December), I'll be brewing...

And per homebrewing guidelines they can be top or bottom fermented. Proper is lagered.
