My family and I are looking at going a family trip to Green Bay to catch a packers game. We have not decided on the week yet, but I thought I would seek out some advice here.

First would be for advice on getting into the game. I have been looking around online, but thought I would check if anyone here had insight or knew of someone thinking or parting with tickets (would need 4).

Second would be hotel/house rental options. Any recommendations on parts of town to stay in or avoid?

What are some good bars or restuaraunts to go to?

We would love to do some tailgating. As it is just the four of us, probably would be more fun to crash a party. Any tips on that? Would buying a tailgate parking pass be worth it?

Thanks for any advice. I went to one game before at Lambeau when I was 17, so a good while ago, plus now that I am over 21 I am looking for a slightly different experience. Would love to meet up with anyone if you go to the games. And of course I plan on bringing some San Diego treats.

Cheers,
Brian

p.s. I did a quick search but didn't see anything, if this has been addressed before or should be posted somewhere else please let me know.

I would say be forewarned that Green Bay is a barren lilacflowers wasteland full of exciting factories, brick facades, and male prostitutes. In my experience the best activities Green Bay have to offer are 1. Leaving Green Bay, 2. Drinking enough Rumple Minze to forget you are there in the first place, 3. Drowning yourself in the Fox River when you sober up and remember where you are. Oh, and there are a ton of Subways there because the town mascot is Jared from the Subway commercials.

Hope this helps.

Don't have much gameday insight. I usually just meet up and crash friend's/relative's parties. I'm in Milwaukee so only make a game or maybe 2 a season.

Parking might be hard to come by in the actual stadium lot unless you buy off of Stub Hub... dunno. If you come early enough there are quite a few large lots/lawns around the stadium where people hang out. Just pick a big one - it'll fill up - and hope for fun parking neighbors.

Around the stadium there are a few bars we usually stop at if we don't tailgate: Stadium View, Anduzzi's, Green Bay Distillery. Green Bay Distillery probably has the best taplist but in general they're just sports bar type places so that isn't saying a lot.

You might be happy with packing in a bar and getting into the stadium early to walk around, drink, and take it all in. If it is a nice day it is probably worth just a walk around the outside of the stadium with beers in hand too.

For general drinking outside of gameday hit up Titletown Brewing... nothing mind blowing but every beer I've tried there is solid. I like the Green 19 IPA quite a bit.

Oh yeah... and if you're just beer shopping hit up Woodman's. It is just a grocery store but they have a large beer selection as far as Green Bay goes. You're not going to find any WI whalez but the variety is nice.

If you like BBQ Joe's Texas Barbecue is a must. It is very close to the stadium.

Allow yourself an hour before the game to just wander around the parking lots to enjoy the bands, tailgating and other festivities going on.

Brett Fart's Steakhouse is close and while it won't have the best beer selection in the state it will have some decent craft on tap and will be a good time if you are a Packer fan.

Thanks for the tips everyone. Definitely would love spots with good beer, but more importantly looking for places with a good atmosphere. Went to Brett Favre's Steak house, most likely will go again at some point while out there.

I remember when I went to Lambeau 13-14 years ago we parked in someone's lawn (similar to college football games), so if this is still a thing, we probably will do that again. Otherwise, how are cabs/uber in the area?

Thinking of getting into town Friday evening and leaving Monday morning.

Badger State Brewing is over there. very close. good beer. have to carry in food or eat their snacks, though.

eta: park on someones lawn to the north of the stadium. pay $10. walk 6 blocks. easy in, easy out.

I went for the first time 2 years ago for an early October game. I found free street parking around 8-10 blocks NE of the stadium around Oneida and 9th street. Only got there about an hour early. Free street parking for an NFL game has got to be unheard of in any other NFL city.

that's a bit further than necessary, generally, for free street parking but still not far at all

Thought I would resurrect this thread. Tickets have been bought for Oct 11th game. I will be arriving in GB the evening of the 8th and leaving Monday. I will be all on my lonesome on Thursday so hopefully i can find a good hotel and liquor store/bar near the hotel (no car until the next day). Looking forward to my trip!

Plan on meeting my family at a restaurant/bar for lunch on Friday, any suggestions?

where's your hotel? were you lucky enough to land one in town?

if it's nice out i'd recommend Hagermeister Park downtown. the patio should still be open, that's usually jammed. otherwise the inside is big, they have good beer on tap and in bottles (relative to the area).

Green Bay Distillery is near the stadium, has good food, could accommodate larger groups and is near Badger State which is making righteous beer and has a cool space for drinking.

Thanks for the tip. I am thinking of either staying at the Hyatt downtown or the Village Inn. The Village in looks like a dump, but it is cheap (more money for beer). The Hyatt is nicer and looks like they have a free shuttle, and is a little closer to HJagermeister and Hinterland (is that place any good?). Do you know rough taxi cost from the airport? Estimates I see are in between $25 and $55, kind of a wide range. My flight gets in around 8:30pm, hoping it doesn't take too long to get checked in so I can grab a few drinks.

For the weekend we are staying outside of Green Bay, up near Dyckesville. We decided to rent a house, more space, less money.

Hinterland is great. expensive. food is excellent but in the range of 25 - 40 a plate for dinners. beer is solid. it's more loungey and upscale. quieter crowd.

the Village Inn is a dump alright. i think people live there rather than drop in for a few days of leisure. hope it was cheap.

no idea on taxi cost from the airport. shouldn't be a bunch. the city is small. it's a tiny and not very busy airport. i was there 2 weeks ago on a friday morning. it was me, 1 other guy and some maintenance workers.

there's a place up in Dyckesville, the name of which escapes me, that does a Jamaican spread on Sundays in the summer. i've always wanted to check that out but just never have yet. a little further up the Peninsula, in Door County, is a pretty popular tourist destination. might be a bit quiet in October but it's pretty.

Slight change of plans. I am staying near the airport the first night. Found a room on Kayak.com for $8 a night at the Radisson. Not sure if I can believe it. I went with the more expensive $10 option (I am a big spender like that) so I can cancel since something seems off. I am going to call them soon to confirm

Jamaican place sounds great for post game dinner.

Think we will do lunch on Friday at Hagermeister. Maybe drinks at Hinterland, or go there for food another time. Thanks for all of your help.

whoa.

there's a "Vegas-style" casino over there. poker, slots, keno, etc. pretty big and popular.

that's kind of a weird corner of town. not much over there, really. definitely going to want to cab it elsewhere unless gambling is your thing.
