My liquor store has a bottle of whistle pig rye. I think it was 13 year blue label. They want $189 for it. Any thoughts? Is it worth it?

Sorry it was a 15 year.

I would pass at that price, if they came down $40-50 I would consider it.

The general consensus about Whistle Pig is that it's solid, but not usually worth the MSRP. For those of us that care about that sort of thing.

Apparently the 15-year is more expensive because it was finished in charred Vermont Oak barrels that they created themselves. But that, to me, is not enough to warrant the nearly-$200 price tag.

That said, I like what Whistle Pig is doing - looking to go full-production with their own distillation.

Owner is currently in a legal battle with investors for control of the company. Popcorn worthy.

#1 overpriced, there are much better for much less
#2 the stopper is kinda cool, they have them made by Danforth Pewter in Middlebury, Vermont
