It jist so happens that 1998 was the year that Taco Bell switched suppliers to get a cheaper price. The mexican company they were using was out bid by a central american conglomerate-- so now the beef comes from chile, Argentina, and Guatemala.

Worked there in '01-'02. Quality depended on how much coin the manager was trying to save and how much we gave a **** that particular day.

For instance, to save on beans we were told to pour water from the Bunn water heater into the pot to thin them out. Same with the meat.

We had a meeting on cost saving one day. Later that day a guy on the line dropped an entire pan of 3cheese all over the floor. Luckily nobody else saw him put as much as possible back into the pan. Thus the phrase "Don't eat the 3cheese" was born.
