I love horror movies, but I don't go nearly as deep as others. I generally appreciation cleverness in horror movies above all else.

You're Next is on streaming. I caught it last year and it was really really entertaining. It totally caught me off guard. Highly recommended.

Im watching The Dead (2010) as we speak. For a low budget zombie flick it is pretty damn good. A little long but it is light on the unbearable dialogue rampant in the genre.

most new horror movies blow ass just bring out the classics like evil dead, nightmare on elm street, friday the 13th,re-animator, the thing, IT, pet semetary etc
IT is a really really bad movie.

On the topic of "classic" horror films, the only recent remake that's worth anything is the Evil Dead remake.

IT is bad in a good way, i would never take a movie with a killer clown seriously but its funny. as far as some what new movies go i will give an honorable mention to planet terror...i remember seeing the double feature of grindhouse in theaters and that was easily the best movie(s) ive seen to date...especially with the trailers in between that was brilliant. didn't care much for death proof but i appreciate the effort

The first ~40 min of Exit Humanity is a masterpiece. Depressing and dark.

The last hour+ is atrocious b-movie nonsense.

I've been meaning to watch Audition since forever but never got around to it.

For me it's hard to beat The Shining or Alien*. I enjoyed 28 Days Later a good deal. Sean Of The Dead if you want some silliness to break up the binge. I feel like I'm one of the only people I know to have enjoyed The Blair Witch Project.

And for my Debbie Downer moment, I didn't think Let The Right Ones In was all that great.

* -wife argues it's Sci-Fi, I argue it's horror

Audition is best if you don't know the horror twist. My roommate came down five minutes in and started watching. About halfway through, he turns to me, "what the hell happened to this movie?"

28 Days and Weeks are both really good.

Came highly recommended by people whose taste I trust, but for me it was all set-up and no delivery. I know that is a really weird criticism coming from someone who enjoyed Blair Witch - I can't reconcile that, but there you have it.

I have managed to remain mostly in the dark about the plot of that movie, but I have heard very good things. Perhaps I'll finally get around to watching it this year.

Recent ones on streaming that I've enjoyed:

You're Next
The House of the Devil
The Innkeepers (less so than the other two)

Also, Rosemary's Baby is still streaming as well.

I sent this to Dunt yesterday, but this is coming out in two weeks and for the value it really can't be beat. 28 Hours of Horror. 4 Disc set for $11.99, 19 movies total. I'm sure some of the movies will be terrible, but when you're paying $.63 a movie you can't really complain. It doesn't appear there is a rhyme or reason to the movie selections, but there does seem to be a lot of zombie/outbreak/mutant type movies in the bunch.

$11.99. Can't beat it. Plus, terrible horror movies are hilarious and a good change of pace. There might be some winners in there, you never know. Even if 1-2 are good/serviceable that's pretty fair market value.

I used to feel like you until the independent horror boom of the late 90's. There is so much unwatchable crap out there now without even the redeeming values of gore and titties.
