Just something I want, I have hatchet and beat down knives that I abuse(yes I abuse them, see my esee), I want this as a display peace and something i can pass down to my kids along with my buck that I keep in my toolbox. I get that it can be used and I might use it gently when I get but I don't want to beat it up like I do all my other tools. I am not very good with keeping tools in the best shape, shit let my father-in-law tell it and I am gaurtnee to break it if I borrow it.

But honestly what good are Bowie knifes. They are too heavy for hiking, camping I gues but what are you gonna use it for, hacking, splitting, etc.. everything that a good hatchet will do 1000x times better. Bowie knives are made for fighting and if shit hit the fan, I will be more than happy to get it off the wall and slice a mother up. But i get how u feel.

From your prior pictures/shit you post here you and your tools know a hard days work.
I was just curious your perspective on it.

Can I ask the point of buying a tool for a wall?
Not being a dick at all I pinky promise. I feel its almost disrespectful to a knife to not use it for it's purpose. No matter how much money/craftsmanship went into it (Yes, I realize Randall's are a extremely unique case but I feel the same way)
I look at it like any hobby/collectibles -- I'm pretty practical about it and use most of my knives for normal EDC stuff, but last year I picked up an Ultratech with a tanto blade in a pretty cool FDE/Black scheme that hasn't seen much. Do I carry it? Sure, but I'd also like to keep it looking sharp because let's be honest; I bought it solely for the "cool to me" factor. It's a horribly impractical knife for pretty much any situation, so it mostly just gets use from me constantly fidgeting with it.

Just like people have tons of bottles of beer in their basement (or wherever) that they'll never open because they think it's cool to have and show off to like-minded friends. Everybody gets their jollies somehow.

I'll echo what others have said. Sometimes it's a cool/wow factor, sometimes it may have a special meaning/history, and others i find them to be more art than function especially when you get to the Damascus, mokuti, timascus, mammoth ivory, zirconium, etc... materials. The OTF automatic Microtechs I had were definitely bought for the cool factor. I typically carry Shirogorov at the moment, knives that are both art and function to me.

I've slimmed my collection down a lot over the last couple years, I'm down to about 7 carry pieces and 2 safe pieces. Collection consists of mainly Shirogorov, and a couple of custom Emerson and limited Zero Tolerance.

I did just see that vid lol, but it just reminded me. I had a buddy pick one up a few weeks ago and it felt and looked pretty damn awesome. On an aside, I like Nutn, but damn is that guy long winded.
I hear you. I actually love in-depth YT vids be they about knives, guns, cars, guitars, etc. People trying to cram a bunch of boilerplate manufacturer info into a 10min video is what drives me nuts.

I'll watch a 30-40 min knife/gun/car review all day over that.

He's right outside my video length sweet spot of 30 min max most of the time. But I'll agree it's better than a rush job video.

I have to pass on the philosophy videos he does where it's just him talking in the camera for close to an hour.

Not sure how I missed this thread before.

EDC is a cheap Kershaw Brawler and my go to knife for heavier work is a Gerber LMF II.

Looking for something for some woods work. Thinking maybe one of these, thoughts?

I have had great experience with ESEE products and service. They make knives that are meant to be abused. Either of these would probably do what you want, but the second one would do it more sexily/expensively.

That richardson knife that was posted really caught my eye. It looks very handmade before the family business became what it is today. It has many of the hallmarks of 70s and 80s handmade custom knives...the exception being that the pommel must have been cast. very very cool piece.

in the meantime here is a little fixed blade edc i just finished up drinking a bean brew coffee stout on sunday morning :)
