Alright, I don't think this exists and with some recent talk in the Random Beer Thoughts thread, I wanted to make my own thread about fruit. Not sure how many people are interested, but it's what I do every day!

Basically just everything and anything fruit related, or other produce. I work for a gourmet grocery chain here in Houston and we get a lot of unique stuff.

I've mentioned it in the RBT thread, but we got these bad boys recently:



Three varieties from left to right: Calypso, Honey Gold and R2E2. Some of the best mangoes I've ever had. wallham knows what I'm talking about.

I've posted some weird stuff in various threads over the last year or so, I guess living out here we get to see and taste a lot of weird fruit. Picked up some pink lemons the other day that I have no idea what I will do with.

Blood Oranges
As much as I enjoy blood oranges, I always gravitate to the Cara Cara

I had a Pink Pearl apple a few years ago and thought it was fantastic. I try and seek them out every year during the pretty short spell of availability.
I've posted some weird stuff in various threads over the last year or so, I guess living out here we get to see and taste a lot of weird fruit. Picked up some pink lemons the other day that I have no idea what I will do with.



As much as I enjoy blood oranges, I always gravitate to the Cara Cara
Pink Pearls are great, pretty unique too. There's another variety very similar to it called Hidden Rose. So dry and tart. But yeah, they're pretty limited. I think we had them for maybe 3 to 4 weeks this past year.

Pink lemons are awesome too. Make some pink lemonade!

Had this a while ago. Family has been in the produce business since my great grandfather immigrated.

Always get the latest, greatest and weirdest in fruit. Usually whatever is in season, been killing Blood Oranges and Sweet Blueberries recently.
Oh man, Cotton Candy grapes are insane. Can't wait until we get them every year. We had some organic ones this past year too as well.

This year's blood orange crop out of California has been fantastic. Some of the citrus has been meh, but those and the Neapolitan Tangerines have been standouts to me.

We also got a relatively new blueberry variety last year called Pink Lemonade Blueberries. Those were crazy. Seriously tasted like pink lemonade, cotton candy and blueberry.

But these were pretty unique, I enjoyed the flavour a lot more than the texture, but I would buy again.

Blueberries are so hit and miss, but when they are on point they are so fucking awesome.

Had a honey gold yesterday at lunch and I am almost in tears thinking about it. Glad I have one more for tonight. Those and the R2E2's are on another level of fruit. So good. Tim is definitely the fruitiest guy I know though. Ask him about the goods!

Pichuberries are actually the same as Cape Gooseberries, which aren't even a real Gooseberry at all, if that makes any sense. They are definitely unique.

But yeah blueberries are really hit or miss. Most of what I have currently are pretty tart, but the current Driscoll's crop that are large in size have been the best tasting. Not amazing, but good for this time of year.

I can put down a pound of red grapes like it's nothing. I wish they were in season right now cause no way am I paying $4/lb
I do the same with Rainier Cherries. For the short time they are in season, they are about the only thing I eat. Lunch = walk to store, get bag of cherries, eat the whole damn thing. Dinner = dammit, I need more cherries.
